Annual Meeting January 30, 2020

Have you ever wanted to learn how to research your ancestors, create a family tree, or even find some unknown relatives? Please join us as we share information on where and how to conduct genealogical research from society members and local genealogy experts.

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11:30 am, the Lake County Genealogical Society will have a Pot Luck lunch meeting. We will have special interest groups by popular demand. Each table will cover a different topic, so ask questions and share information with your table. Bring your genealogy questions, a dish to share, and tableware and join us.

Lake County Genealogical Society meetings are typically held on the last Thursday of the month from 10:00 am to noon, but because this is one of our Pot Luck meetings we will meet at 11:30 am for lunch. We do not meet the months of August and December. We meet in the Morley Library basement (184 Phelps St., Painesville). Please check our web site (www.lcgsohio.org) for any changes in meeting date/time/location or call Dave at 440-209-1639 or Cynthia at 440-951-0914 for more information.

Since then, she has spent thousands of hours combing the myriad English and Welsh archives in the UK, the US, and online for herself and others.

Lake County Genealogical Society meetings are typically held on the last Thursday of the month, but due to the Thanksgiving holiday we will meet on November 21. We do not meet the months of August and December. We meet from 10:00 am to noon in the Morley Library basement (184 Phelps St., Painesville). Morley is now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library

We are very pleased to report that Morley Library has become a FamilySearch affiliate library. As you know, many record sets on FamilySearch have restrictions. Affiliate libraries have privileges to access many of these restricted-access FamilySearch databases.

You must use FamilySearch in the library to take advantage of the enhanced access. Morley Library is open Monday thru Thursday, 9:00 am – 9:00 pm; Friday, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. There are limited hours on Sundays (October through April only).

Join us at our April 2019 Meeting

On Thursday, April 25, from 10:00 am to noon, Cheryl McClellan will speak about FamilySearch’s Online Tree (www.familysearch.org). FamilySearch is the world’s largest global family tree. Instead of each person separately researching and posting a tree, the tree is a collaborative effort to build one world tree, working with descendants of common ancestors.

Amazing results and a learning curve come with collaboration. Cheryl McClellan provides tips and cautions to scaling the world’s most technologically advanced tree. Cheryl is a family history writer, a genealogist at the Geauga County Public Library, and volunteers at the FamilySearch Center in Kirtland, Ohio. So please come join us for an opportunity to hear a great speaker!

We hold our Lake County Genealogical Society meetings in the basement of the Morley Library, 184 Phelps St., Painesville. Call Dave at 440-209-1639 or Cynthia at 440-951-0914 for more information.
